As a tribute to JYSK-founder Lars Larsen, the bronze sculpture ‘Købmanden’ is unveiled.

The business collective Kejlstrupvej 87, which is home to Selected Car Group and Selected Car Collection among others, opens in Silkeborg.

Jesper Lund is appointed President and CEO of Lars Larsen Group and is together with the Chairman of the Board, Jacob Brunsborg, responsible for the development of the group.

2019

JYSK celebrates its 40th anniversary on 2 April. On 2 June, Lars Larsen steps down as Chairman of the Board after having led JYSK and the Lars Larsen Group for more than 40 years. He is replaced by his son Jacob Brunsborg. Lars Larsen passes away on 19 August.

Lars Larsen Group invests in Solid Leasing, specializing in financial car leasing.

Lars Larsen Group invests in SengeSpecialisten, a rapidly growing Danish supplier of beds, mattresses and sleep accessories.

2016

Lars Larsen Group invests in Actona Company, which supplies furniture for retailers around the world.

Lars Larsen Group invests in Letz Sushi, a Danish-based sushi chain.

2013

Lars Larsen Group establishes Fonden Made in Denmark Golf, which has been hosting the golf tournament European Golf Tour in HimmerLand since 2014.

2012

JYSK opens store number 2,000 and reaches a turnover of 17 billion DKK.

Lars Larsen Group invests in ILVA one of the leading furniture and home decoration chains in Denmark.

2011

Forbes Magazine estimates Lars Larsen’s fortune at 3.6 billion dollars, earning him 304th place on the Forbes 500 list of the wealthiest people in the world.

2009

Lars Larsen is awarded the Cross of the Order of Dannebrog and the year after is granted the title of Purveyor of Her Majesty The Queen of Denmark. In 2017, he is elevated to Knight 1st Class of the Order of Dannebrog

Lars Larsen Group invests in Ferdinand, a boutique hotel and restaurant in central Aarhus, Denmark.

Lars Larsen Group invests in ScanCom International, a global leader in outdoor furniture.

2005

JYSK opens store number 1,000 and reaches a turnover of 9 billion DKK.

2006

Lars Larsen Group invests in Garia, the world-famous manufacturer of luxury golf and leisure vehicles.

2004

JYSK celebrates its 25th anniversary on 2 April. To mark the occasion, Lars Larsen distributes 2,4 million copies of his autobiography in Denmark – one for every home. The book is translated into many languages including Chinese.

Lars Larsen Group invests in the Scandinavian furniture company Bolia.

Lars Larsen Group establishes Larsen Rejser and starts selling low cost travel packages for destinations around the world.

Lars Larsen is among the first in Denmark to make use of tv advertising and soon becomes known for his catch-phrase “Godaw. Jeg hedder Lars Larsen. Jeg har et godt tilbud.”

1989

JYSK becomes main sponsor of Parasport Denmark and remains its main sponsor to this day.

Lars Larsen Group invests in HimmerLand a holiday and business resort offering worldclass golf, hotel, spa, wellness and much more.

1984

On 1 April, JYSK opens the first store in Germany in Flensburg.

The tradesman Lars Larsen opens together with his wife Kris his first JYSK store in Aarhus, Denmark on 2 April. The company will grow rapidly in Denmark and abroad over the following decades.
